The grapes for the Lindemans Coonawarra St George Cabernet Sauvignon are sourced entirely from 30 year-old vines on the celebrated 12-hectare Lindemans St George Vineyard. This particularly low yielding vineyard is located directly on the Limestone spine of the Terra Rossa strip and produces a wine that is the very essence of Coonawarra.

Vintage Conditions

After a wonderful run of high quality, trouble-free vintages in the Coonawarra, 1995 proved to be a bit difficult. Lindemans was very fortunate in that a few blocks of Cabernet performed particularly well, which resulted in a successful but much smaller quantity of St George.

Grape Variety.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Maturation

Matured in new French oak hogsheads and barriques for 21 months.

Winemaker Comments:

Colour

1995 St George Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has a full, intense brick-red colour.

Nose

This wine displays fine, restrained fruit, enhanced through partial barrel fermentation in new French oak barriques and hogsheads.

Palate

The palate reveals concentrated, but fine, cassis fruit flavours. The 1995 St George has excellent tight tannins from extended skin contact, which nicely complement the spicy fruit. This will become even more delightful with bottle age.

Wine Analysis

Alc/Vol: 12.5%  Acidity: 7.10g/L  pH: 3.42

Food Matches

Ideally suited to Lamb

Medium to full red-purple; the bouquet is sweet and smooth, with well-balanced fruit and oak; the palate is even more attractive, with sweet chocolate and mint-flavoured fruit, well-above-average tannin structure, and nicely judged oak. The best of the trio from 1995.

Best Drinking 2000-2010."  James Halliday – 91 points
