Coonawarra St George Cabernet Sauvignon 1997 Lindemans St George Cabernet Sauvignon has contributed to Coonawarra's fame and international reputation for producing some of the best Cabernet wines in the world. These wines represent benchmark quality and their aging potential is undisputed, as many fine examples have proven. Fruit for this individual vineyard wine is sourced from the 12 hectare St George Vineyard which was re-planted in 1969 with specially selected Cabernet Sauvignon cuttings taken from the oldest and best clones of Cabernet in the district. Vineyard Region Coonawarra Vintage Conditions A dramatic change in the weather from early April brought the necessary warmth to finish off a longer than normal ripening period brought about through a cool February and March. As a result, our winemakers found that they had an excellent red vintage in hand; some claim rivals the best Cabernets of 1991. Grape Variety Cabernet Sauvignon Maturation 20 months in new French barriques & hogsheads Winemaker Comments: Greg Clayfield
Colour Excellent dark plum red colour. Nose The bouquet shows intense cedar, mint and tobacco leaf fruit characters typical of great Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon styles. Integrating with this is a background of fine nutty oak. Palate The palate has full-bodied firm fruit flavours with a long dry tannin finish enhanced by fine-grained new French oak.
