Seppelt Drumborg Vineyard regularly shows exactly what cool-climate cabernet sauvignon is all about. Seppelt pioneered Drumborg as a wine grape growing region in 1964 when it planted its Drumborg Vineyard near Portland in southern Victoria. For many years Seppelt remained the only champion of the area which faces the Great Southern Ocean. The southerly latitude, together with the icy winds that blow up from the Antarctic, result in vintages often as late as mid-May and small, intensely flavoured berries. Regional Source Seppelt Drumborg Vineyard, southern Victoria Vintage Conditions 1998 was a great year for Cabernet Sauvignon, due to the long, warm ripening period. The grapes were picked at optimum flavour and sugar levels. Grape Variety Cabernet Sauvignon Maturation This wine was matured for 18 months in new French oak. Winemaker Comments: Paul LapsleyColour Medium red Nose Intense, complex cassis and violet notes with fine cedary oak. Palate A harmonious and fine palate showing sweet fruit with a complex dusty herbal flavour profile. A long rich wine with firm tannins and a savoury finish.
