Wine Products » Shiraz Viognier :: 2001 d'Arenberg The Laughing Magpie Shiraz Viognier
Dark fruits and Christmas cake nuances on the bouquet. Ripe blackberry fruit and integrated savoury oak link the nose and palate. Rich, full and supple, the palate has a Rhone texture and character. Nice length with very juicy fruit tones lingering. 4 1/2 Stars Winestate sep 2002 Highly Recommended A vibrant, spicy red with peppery overtones and excellent intensity of flavour. One panel member, without being aware of the Viognier component, even remarked on a hint of ginger. Give this wine at least a couple of years to show what it’s really about. Winewise Magazine Jan 2003
d’Arenberg continues to do exceptionally well with their newest offering, The Laughing Magpie. The inky/purple-coloured 2001 (a blend of 95% Shiraz and 5% Viognier) exhibits knock-out aromas of violets, blackberry liqueur, honeysuckle, and toasty new French oak. With extraordinary richness, full body, opulence, intensity, and a seamless as well as majestic finish this killer red will be at its finest between 2005-2018. Robert Parker Jnr 93 points |
