Chalambar Shiraz 2003 The House of Seppelt proudly presents Victoria's definitive range of wine.Spanning single region benchmarks through to state-wide blends, this collection is based upon a philosophy of varietal expressiveness, balanced flavours and cellaring ability. The Seppelt Regional Range harnesses the individual strengths and distinct characteristics of Victoria's finest viticultural regions to create wines of great character and depth of flavour matched by a refined elegance. Chalambar Shiraz derives its name from the picturesque Mount Chalambar south of the Seppelt Great Western Winery and has been produced since 1953. The 2003 Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz is sealed with a BVS Screw-Cap. Regional Source Bendigo, Grampians. Vintage Conditions Dry conditions and a cool 2002 vintage resulted in low bunch numbers and small berries. This proved to be beneficial as the mature vines, assisted by the small crop, thrived in the following warm, dry summer. Rains in mid February re-vitalised the vines before a trouble free harvest producing Shiraz with bright fruit and excellent concentration of flavour. Grape Variety Shiraz (Syrah) Maturation Matured for 18 months in 40% new French and 60% one-, two- and three-year-old French and American Oak. Winemaker Comments: Emma Wood Colour Dark crimson with purple hues. Nose Lifted and layered with underlying mulberry fruit aromas combining with lifted notes of spice and cracked pepper and floral fragrances. Palate Finely poised and well balanced with a depth of vibrant fruit and an inky intensity. Fine-grained tannins and savoury oak characters frame a core of blueberry fruit, spice and licorice flavours. An excellent Chalambar Shiraz displaying the hallmark balance of power and elegance.
